Still musically in Ghost Appreciation Month

[Not really an intention to get another ghost song, but it just popped up]

After the Afterlife

So tell me about your mom

And how she cuts her hair

Does she like it short

Does she grow it out

Like seaweed

Because you are not awake

You are not awake

You’re still asleep with the seaweed kelp

So tell me about your dad

And how he gets you high

Do you like him stoned out, yeah

Do you like him dried out like seaweed

Because you are not awake

You are not awake

You’re still asleep with the seaweed kelp

I am a ghost on fire

White sheets aflame

Where is my heart

After the afterlife

Where it has it gone and stayed
So tell me about yourself

And how you like to dream about the ocean

Does it make you want to believe

In anything at all

Like me

Ghost Appreciation Month: A musical interlude

Here’s my two little lyrical additions to the whole Ghost Appreciation Month festivities going on at Beyond Fiction this month:

And if pleases you to leave me, just go

stopping you would stifle your enchanting ghost

Sufjan Stevens: Enchanting Ghost [2010]

she’s still able, at night to watch

with a human heart

with a human heart

not just a ghost’s heart

Worst lyrics of all time #351

“And I almost choked on your kaleidoscope” Matt Costa – Mr. Pitiful

(I find that happens a lot when I’m at parties)

Lyric observations #628

“Here comes love, it’s like honey
You can’t buy it with money”
Crystal – New Order

Okay, forgive me if I’m a little slow here but much as I want to like the sentiment above, I have often found bee poo[1] to be a product that people buy on a regular basis and even though it is true that you can get it for free, this doesn’t seem to be implied in the line above.

Much as I love these guys they really know how to throw out some truly dire lyrics at times, purely for the much loved rhyming couplet.

[1] There is no evidence to confirm or deny whether Mark actually believes honey is bee excrement or not.

Casimir Pulaski Day

Sufjan Stevens (Illinois – 2005)

Golden rod and the 4-H stone
The things I brought you
When I found out you had cancer of the bone

Your father cried on the telephone
And he drove his car to the Navy yard
Just to prove that he was sorry

In the morning through the window shade
When the light pressed up against your shoulder blade
I could see what you were reading

Oh the glory that the lord has made
And the complications you could do without
When I kissed you on the mouth

Tuesday night at the bible study
We lift our hands and pray over your body
But nothing ever happens

I remember at Michael’s house
In the living room when you kissed my neck
And I almost touched your blouse

In the morning at the top of the stairs
When your father found out what we did that night
And you told me you were scared

Oh the glory when you ran outside
With your shirt tucked in and your shoes untied
And you told me not to follow you

Sunday night when I cleaned the house
I find the card where you wrote it out
With the pictures of your mother

On the floor at the great divide
With my shirt tucked in and my shoes untied
I am crying in the bathroom

In the morning when you finally go
And the nurse runs in with her head hung low
And the cardinal hits the window

In the morning in the winter shade
On the first of March on the holiday
I thought I saw you breathing

Oh the glory that the lord has made
And the complications when I see his face
In the morning in the window

Oh the glory when he took our place
But he took my shoulders and he shook my face
And he takes and he takes and he takes

Misquote time!

I just thought of a quote I got wrong for several years and actually prefer my version:

“Is that you baby, or just a bridge in disguise?”

(Hey come on it’s The Boss, he could easily write sub-standard lyrics like this… lol!)

Please, please, please send me your misquotes that made the song better/worse/weird/saner.

I await your words with almost insatiable interest!
